The Capital Quiz
The
Capital Quiz, now 23 years old, is an annual
knock-out quiz competition held January to March and open to teams of three
lesbian gay bisexual and transgender people. It is organised by the London
Monday Group (a social group for gay men). We also use the quiz to raise money
for charity, and for 2008 our choice was The Food Chain.
In 2008 under new rules 13 teams entered, while others could just turn up on the night. Many pubs enter teams, as do gay groups. But it could just as easily be an informal group of friends. Other people who aren’t in teams can come along, take part in a Table Quiz and generally enjoy the show.
The Quiz was originally sponsored by the late, much-lamented weekly gay free-sheet, Capital Gay. When the paper folded, the quiz was taken on first by the Central Station pub and then by The Black Cap in Camden Town. In 2008 it was back at Central Station. The first and second prizes were £100 and £75, while the third and fourth teams picked up £50 and £25 respectively.
The 2008 winners were the Gay Football Supporters Network.
Unfortunately owing to illness and other factors, it has not been possible to arrange a Quiz in 2009 or 2010.
